Congratulations to Attorney Zhang Jiancheng of Beijing Huatai Law Firm on being elected as a member of the "Beijing Lawyers Association Think Tank Expert Group for Research on Major and Complex Cases."

In 2016, the Beijing Lawyers Association established the "Beijing Lawyers Association Think Tank Task Force on Major and Complex Cases," which was divided into four groups. The task force comprises 30 expert lawyers who are highly influential in the legal community and actively engaged in frontline judicial practice. Its primary responsibilities include: first, compiling case studies involving criminal, civil, second-instance, and retrial reversals; and second, conducting expert reviews of significant and intricate cases encountered in real-world practice. The first task after the establishment of the research team was to plan and compile two books: "Criminal Second-Instance and Retrial Reversal Cases" and "Civil Second-Instance and Retrial Reversal Cases." This initiative marked the first time in four decades since the restoration of China's legal system that lawyers have systematically collected and publicly published reversal cases, effectively "filling a gap in legal literature" and "taking a solid step forward in building the rule of law in China."

Building on the foundation of the first collection of retrial cases, the Beijing Lawyers Association has once again assembled a panel of expert authors to continue developing this series. In April 2023, "Criminal Second-Instance and Retrial Reversal Cases: An Analysis of the Litigation Process and Key Justice Issues (Volume 2)," "Civil Second-Instance and Retrial Reversal Cases: An Analysis of the Litigation Process and Focal Points of Dispute," and "Administrative, Intellectual Property, and Enforcement Objection Second-Instance and Retrial Reversal Cases: An Analysis of the Litigation Process and Core Points of Contention" were newly published, featuring 45 practical cases spanning criminal, civil, administrative, intellectual property, and enforcement objection areas.

On August 24, 2024, the Beijing Lawyers Association held the inaugural meeting of its think tank's expert group for studying major and complex cases, and presented committee certificates to the members.

Attorney Zhang Jiancheng, Partner at Beijing Huatai Law Firm and Deputy Director of the Criminal Law Professional Committee, Attorney Zhang Jiancheng is a full-time criminal defense lawyer specializing in criminal defense and practical research on criminal procedures. He currently serves as a member of the Criminal Committee and the Disciplinary & Mediation Committee of the Chaoyang District Lawyers Association in Beijing, as well as a member of the Expert Committee under the Think Tank Group of the Beijing Lawyers Association and a member of the Expert Panel for Research on Major and Complex Cases within the Beijing Lawyers Association’s Think Tank. Additionally, he is a member of the Beijing Society of Criminology. For Attorney Zhang Jiancheng, being selected as part of this expert panel is both an honor and a significant responsibility. In his future work with the panel, he will contribute voluntarily—without any compensation or allowances—to tasks such as editing, reviewing, and providing insightful commentary, fully demonstrating the social responsibility and sense of mission inherent in every Huatai lawyer.
